Instead he joined the National Institute of Oceanography, giving engineering support to geophysicists, marine biologists and meteorologists, and spending quite a lot of time at sea.<\/p>\n<p>Later he went to Nairobi University as a teacher of engineering, only to return to Cumbria where he co-founded an offshore engineering software business, <i>Orcina Ltd.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>His engineering poetry was first published in 2007 by Flaxbooks, the imprint of Lancaster Litfest; since then his poems have appeared widely in discriminating magazines.
